Snoring
is a very common problem affecting 20% of men and 5% of women
at the age of 35, increasing in the over 60s to up to 50%
of men and 30% of women. Although snoring is often treated as
a bit of a joke, it can be the cause of extremely serious problems
for both health and relationships. Sleepiness is a particular
problem for snorers and their partners. If you are sleepy it is
more likely that you will have a road accident and your performance
at work may well suffer.
People
who snore may have sleep apnoea where the person stops breathing
for short periods during sleep. This brings additional risks of
heart disease and high blood pressure.

What
is the cause of my snoring?
There
are many different causes and each individual needs to be fully
examined to find the reason for their snoring. Sometimes there
are multiple causes, sometimes no obvious reason can be found.
